Getting in touch

Hi, I don't know where to put this thread, it's a bit frustrating not being able to read and write in hebrew properly.
I'm a new immigrant from Argentina, I came an year ago, and until now I thought that the exotic pets hobby was nonexistent in Israel. I've been a reptile/arachnid keeper for more than 6 years. I kept a wide variety of animals, but in the last 3 years I kept only venomous snakes and tarantulas.
I'm really excited that I found this forum and I'm interested in getting in touch with people who share the same passion than me, and why not? Try to start again with the hobby.
I'd love to meet breeders from here to exchange opinions and knowledge.
I'm currently living in Ashdod.
My e-mail is hidraliscom AT hotmail DOT com

Thanks a lot and take care,
Regards,
Martin

Y hola Martin!
I used to hang out with lots of Argentinian/ South American immigrants from Ashdod a couple of years ago, haven't been there for a while. My Argentinian ex boyfriend still lives there :).
What species did you own back in Argentina? Should be interesting- we're kind of behind compared to many other countries when it comes to variety, but we're slowly advancing... If you're into Boas and are looking for more unique stuff, though- thanks to Alon and Oren Israel can actually offer you some Boas that won't put to shame anything you might've seen abroad. That's probably the only thing in the reptile field we have something to be proud about, lol.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. Being the forum in hebrew, I'm forced to practice my reading although it's SO hard to me to understand a lot of technical words that I only know in spanish or english. An english version of the forum would simplify my life a lot, lol.

Metazoa: In the last time I owned Bothrops alternatus, B. neuwiedi paranaensis, B. ammodytoides, and Crotalus durissus terrificus as well as more than 15 or maybe 20 species of tarantulas.
I also love opistoglyphous colubrids, such as Philodryas (I kept some species), Hydrodynastes, Thamnodynastes, etc.

I saw in the photo gallery some amazing pictures of Epicrates cenchria cenchria, Boa constrictor ssp. ALBINO, and even Python regius MOJAVE (????)
That's awesome, I'd love to see all those snakes live.

In Argentina the hobby is also growing slowly, there are some important breeders but there isn't a lot of variety. For example, only two or three people have rare phases of Python regius or Boa constrictor,

I have a looooooooooot of questions regarding to the exotic pets market in Israel, if someone live near Ashdod it would be great to hang out and to chat a bit :)

Regards,
Martin

I don't live near Ashdod, but if you'd like you can PM me with questions and I'll tell you what I know, or try and find out the answer for you. The albino Boa and Mojave Ball python are actually for sale, though I doubt it that the specimens offered are as pretty as the ones shown in the pictures. Unfortunately, most of the more special morphs that arrive here are not the best looking specimens, to say the least. That doesn't include private breeders, who often spend loads of money on private imports. But when people order in bulk or smuggle the animals into Israel, the specimens are usually not of the best quality there is...

Thanks people, you're all very kind

Metazoa: Yes, the same thing happens in Argentina. There are only two or three importers and not more than a few 'important breeders', and when they save money to buy a rare species or a phase from USA, they receive 'second-hand' animals
Anyways, I've seen in the Sales Forum some animals that I was impressed of seeing them here in Israel, even some of them were captive bred here, that's great

,Cheers

Actually there's quite a bit more than meets the eye.... for some reason the best animals are kept in such secrecy... it's quite absurd
However I guess I can't really blame anyone... quite a few people ended up being hurt when they revealed what they got... things changed since then( I think ) but... the automatic response to "be quiet" is still going strong.

If there's anything specific you want... most likely, you will be able to eventually obtain. It's an issue of being patient... and of course, money :/

Best of luck with re-establishing your collection here, though I doubt it will include quite as many "hots" as it used to back in Argentina 😄
